Privacy notice
Last updated: 17 October 2026
SteveTechArc (stevetecharc.com) is run by Twinshark LLC. I’m Steve Simpson, and this notice explains what personal information the site collects and what happens to it. It’s short because the site collects very little.
What the site collects, and why
When you send a message through the contact form, I get what you type: your name, your email address, the subject and your message. It arrives in the site’s private contact inbox. I use it only to reply to you. It isn’t added to a mailing list, and it isn’t used for marketing.
When you sign up for the newsletter, I get your email address and, if you add it, your first name. You first get an email asking you to confirm; nothing is added until you click that link. After that, your address is on the newsletter list so I can send you the newsletter. Every newsletter has a link to unsubscribe.
When you visit the site, the host, Cloudflare, processes basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse. I also count visits, without cookies, in two ways. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts which pages are read, from which countries, and which sites sent people here. And the site itself counts each page you open: the page and its language, your approximate location (country, region and city, as Cloudflare estimates it from your network), the name of the site that sent you (for example linkedin.com, never the full address), the short tag on the link you followed, if it has one (for example ref=share-li from a share button, or the tag on one of my posts; it names the link, never you), and whether you’re on a phone or a computer.
To count how many people visit each day, the site turns your IP address and browser type, together with a random value that changes every day, into a short one-way code. The IP address itself isn’t stored. The daily value is deleted after two days, so the code can’t be traced back to you or matched across days; it only lets me tell that two page views on the same day came from the same visitor. I see totals, not who you are.
To stop spam, the contact and newsletter forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a real person is sending the form. It loads only once you start filling in a form, not when a page opens. To do that it looks at technical signals such as your IP address and browser details; Cloudflare uses them to detect bots, not to identify, profile or target anyone. It doesn’t read what you type into the form.
Things that stay in your browser
Some course pages let you tick off what you’ve studied. Those ticks are saved only in your own browser (local storage). They’re never sent to the site or to me, and clearing your browser data removes them.
Videos from YouTube
Videos on the site are YouTube videos. A video page shows a picture of each video, served from this site; nothing comes from YouTube until you click one. When you click, the video plays in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com): YouTube then receives your IP address, and it may store information in your browser, under Google’s own privacy policy.
Who handles it for me
I use a few service providers to run the site. Each one handles your information only to provide its service:
- Cloudflare hosts the site, runs the spam check, and counts and stores the visit totals.
- Resend sends the contact form messages to my inbox, sends the newsletter confirmation and the newsletter, and keeps the newsletter list.
- Google Workspace is where my email lives, including your message and my reply.
I don’t sell or rent your information, and I don’t share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Cookies
The site doesn’t set any cookies, and there’s no cookie banner because there’s nothing to agree to. YouTube may set its own once you play a video, as described above, and sites you click through to (YouTube, LinkedIn, X) may set their own under their own policies.
How long it’s kept
- Contact messages: kept in my email as long as I need them to reply, and as part of normal records. Ask and I’ll delete them, unless the law requires me to keep something.
- The newsletter list: your address stays on it until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove it.
- Visit counts: Cloudflare Web Analytics keeps totals, full detail for 7 days, then a sample for about six months. The site’s own page counts, with the daily visitor code, are kept for three months. After that only totals by day, page, language and place are kept, without the visitor code.
The site itself keeps no messages or sign-ups, and no information that identifies visitors: only visit totals.
Your choices
You can ask what information I have about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email contact@stevetecharc.com. You can leave the newsletter at any time with the unsubscribe link in any issue. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under your local privacy laws; I’ll honor them.
Children
The site is for professionals and isn’t directed at children under 13. I don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If the way the site handles personal information changes, I’ll update this notice and the date at the top.
